TRADITIONAL HAFLINGER HORSERACING AND PROCESSION

Merano Racecourse
This event, held on Easter Monday, marks the opening of the annual racing season at the racecourse. In the morning there is a procession through the town centre of many colourful floats accompanied by brass bands in local costumes.

Haflinger horses ride out onto the track to do battle, with young jockeys astride, while local cuisine and folklore give a real South Tyrolean air. The country horse races are on! This is an event that is always engaging and thrilling, with a fixed date: Easter Monday.

Preceding the actual races, which take place in the afternoon at Merano’s historical Racecourse, there is a colorful parade of bands and folk groups through town centre. The parade starts at 10:30 a.m., at the Venosta Gate/Via delle Corse.
